Developing minds and bodies through the power of play!
Creating engaging stories and complementary play kits that enhance gross motor and fine motor development.

The ability to exert force against resistance. For children, it is beneficial to work on a variety of strengthening exercises, and it is recommended to focus on body weight exercises versus weight lifting in the early years. (And much later in my opinion!)

Strength

The ability to maintain a controlled body position during task performance. The body positions can be varied: Standing, sitting, belly lying, etc. The tasks can be static, such as sitting in a chair to eat,  or dynamic such as walking down a grassy hill.

Balance

The act of receiving, interpretaing and responding to sensory stimulation in the environment and one’s own body.

Sensory

Processing

The ability of a muscle or a group of muscles to exert force repeatedly. Muscular endurance is important in nearly every functional and play task. To crawl across a room, a child must noy only have the strength to get themselves up, they need the endurance to repeat and sustain activities.

Endurance

The ability to position and move the trunk over the pelvis and vice versa. It is needed to help maintain posture and to give your body a stable base so that the arms, legs and head can be controlled in a coordinated manner.

Core

Stability

A sensory system that helps children perceive their position and orientation in space. The vestibular system is located in the inner ear and uses information from head movement, the eyes and gravity to maintain balance and movement.

Vestibular

The integration of multiple movements into efficient performance tasks. There are three main types coordination: 1) Fine motor coordination: involves the small muscles of the hands, and face 2) Gross motor coordination: involves the coordination of the large muscle groups of the trunk, neck and extremities, and 3) Eye-hand coordination relating to the using visual input to coordinate movements.

Coordination

The ability to move muscles and joints through the availabl range of motion. It is important for posture, movement efficiency and coordination.

Flexibility

Exercise Philosophy

Our approach to exercise is simple. We believe that children learn best through play. Our stories encourage movement exploration. Our illustrations provide creative suggestions for how children can move their bodies, but we hope this is just a starting point. When allowed free play, children will find creative ways to move their bodies. Our gross motor and fine motor play kits are great ways to encourage open-ended play and motor learning.
